Groupon: The Coupons of the Future
Customers are always searching for a way to save money and restaurants are always looking for more business. How can restaurant owners make these two objectives meet to reach a common goal? Enter Groupon, a popular online coupon website with a twist.
With Groupon, customers can buy into a coupon, but there’s a catch. Each coupon has a certain number of customers who must buy into it before the customers can redeem the coupon. This concept is called “Collective Buying.” With collective buying, because business owners are promised a certain number of customers with coupons, they are willing to give better deals than normal.
I think Groupon is a great idea that really works. Many facebook applications use this same idea and require users to get a certain number of friends to join before getting something special. It’s a true win-win situation for everyone. I love a deal, but going through the coupon section of the weekly paper is too time consuming and messy. This way, I can easily search online wherever I am for the latest possible coupons. Even if not enough customers click to get the coupon, there’s always another chance tomorrow.
Groupon is currently available in more than 85 cities in the US. With more than 8.2 million subscribers, it is certainly a service to consider. For more information about listing coupons for your restaurants on Groupon, check out www.grouponworks.com
